			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Whatever your blood cholesterol level, you can make changes to help lower it or keep it low and reduce your risk for heart disease. These are guidelines for heart-healthy living that the whole family (including children ages 2 and above) can follow:<br />
1) Choose foods low in saturated fat. All foods that contain fat are made up of a mixture of saturated and unsaturated fats. Saturated fat raises your blood cholesterol level more than anything else you eat. The best way to reduce blood cholesterol is to choose foods lower in saturated fat. One way to help your family do this is by choosing foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains&#8211;foods naturally low in total fat and high in starch and fiber.</p>
<p>2) Choose foods low in total fat. Since many foods high in total fat are also high in saturated fat, eating foods low in total fat will help your family eat less saturated fat. When you do eat fat, substitute unsaturated fat&#8211;either polyunsaturated or monounsaturated&#8211;for saturated fat. Fat is a rich source of calories, so eating foods low in fat will also help you eat fewer calories. Eating fewer calories can help you lose weight&#8211;and, if you are overweight, losing weight is an important part of lowering your blood cholesterol. (Consult your family doctor if you have a concern about your child&#8217;s weight.)</p>
<p>3) Choose foods high in starch and fiber. Foods high in starch and fiber are excellent substitutes for foods high in saturated fat. These foods&#8211;breads, cereals, pasta, grains, fruits, and vegetables&#8211;are low in saturated fat and cholesterol. They are also lower in calories than foods that are high in fat. But limit fatty toppings and spreads like butter and sauces made with cream and whole milk dairy products. Foods high in starch and fiber are also good sources of vitamins and minerals.<br />
When eaten as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, foods with soluble fiber&#8211;like oat and barley bran and dry peas and beans&#8211;may help to lower blood cholesterol.</p>
<p>4) Choose foods low in cholesterol. Remember, dietary cholesterol can raise blood cholesterol, although usually not as much as saturated fat. So it&#8217;s important for your family to choose foods low in dietary cholesterol. Dietary cholesterol is found only in foods that come from animals. And even if an animal food is low in saturated fat, it may be high in cholesterol; for instance, organ meats like liver and egg yolks are low in saturated fat but high in cholesterol. Egg whites and foods from plant sources do not have cholesterol.</p>
<p>5) Be more physically active. Being physically active helps improve blood cholesterol levels: it can raise HDL and lower LDL. Being more active also can help you lose weight, lower your blood pressure, improve the fitness of your heart and blood vessels, and reduce stress. And being active together is great for the entire family.</p>
<p>6) Maintain a healthy weight, and lose weight if you are overweight. People who are overweight tend to have higher blood cholesterol levels than people of a healthy weight. Overweight adults with an &#8220;apple&#8221; shape&#8211;bigger (pot) belly&#8211;tend to have a higher risk for heart disease than those with a &#8220;pear&#8221; shape&#8211;bigger hips and thighs.</p>
<p>Whatever your body shape, when you cut the fat in your diet, you cut down on the richest source of calories. A family eating pattern high in starch and fiber instead of fat is a good way to help control weight. Do not go on crash diets that are very low in calories since they can be harmful to your health. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You have been on that low carb diet for a while and now you simply do not know what else you can eat. You are fed up with the same foods you have been eating since you started and now every breakfast, lunch or dinner are more than a quest.</p>
<p>Many people face the same difficulty in choosing their menu while they are on a low carb diet. The reason behind this is that they are unsure which foods are allowed and which are not.</p>
<p>Low carbohydrate diets in fact are very generous. You can eat almost everything unless it contains a lot of carbohydrates.</p>
<p>Vegetables: during a low carb diet only low carb vegetables are allowed. You will be amazed how many vegetables you can eat. You can consume all kind of greens such as lettuce, spinach, chard; beans, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, mushrooms, cucumbers, all kinds of peppers, onions and all kinds of herbs. The main vegetables that are not allowed because they have high carb levels are corn, potatoes, peas, beets and carrots.</p>
<p>Fruits: fruit consumption during a low carb diet can be a bit tricky as most of the fruits contain a lot of glucose. However you can eat all kind of berries (strawberries, cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries), grapefruit, melons, apricots, plums, peaches, pears, cherries, apples. Depending on the diet you might be allowed to eat some fruits that have higher sugar levels such as grapes, oranges, tangerine, and pineapples. Fruits that are strictly forbidden are bananas and all kinds of dried fruits.</p>
<p>Meat: most of the low carb diets feature an extensive use of meats. This is due to the fact that meat contains a lot of proteins and some essential substances for your wellbeing. However you should be careful what meat you eat. Avoid breaded meats or heavy meat souses, check if the hams and luncheon meats you want to eat have added sugars.</p>
<p>Dairy: dairy foods such as milk, yogurt, and cream have a lot of carbohydrates so be very careful about their consumption. Make sure you know how to count the carbs in these products. An option is to find substitutes such as soy milk and cream.</p>
<p>Obviously it is impossible to list all of the foods you can or cannot eat during your diet. For that reason you can take a diet food list that will have all of the foods you can eat. What you should do is to check with this list if the food you want is allowed or not. After a while you will not need the list anymore. Another tip is to concentrate on the foods you can eat and stop thinking of the ones you are not allowed to have.</p>

8. Foods that are rich in oxalic acid or oxalates such as star fruit (carambola), black pepper, parsley, poppy seed, rhubarb stalks, amaranth, spinach, chard, beets, cocoa, chocolate, most nuts, most berries, and beans.<br />
9. Alcohol<br />
10. Carbonated drinks.<br />
11. Foods that easily get mold which can cause allergy such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, nuts, berries, cantaloupe and honeydew melon</p>
<p>The list above may increase arthritic symptoms. Not everyone react the same to the food groups above. You need to monitor the type of foods that can aggravate the pain.</p>
<p>In the recent years, scientists have identified foods that are friendly to your arthritic conditions.</p>
<p>1. Increase the intake of green, yellow, and orange vegetables such as artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, chard, collards, lettuce, spinach, string beans, summer or winter squash, sweet potatoes, tapioca, and taro . They contains high amount of antioxidants, Vitamins C and E. They help to neutralize free radicals which attack the joints.</p>
<p>2. Eat brown rice instead of corns, wheat, oats, rye, and barley</p>
<p>3. Choose cooked or dried fruits such as cherries, cranberries, pears, prunes. These do not include arthritis trigger fruits such as citrus fruits, bananas, peaches or tomatoes.</p>
<p>4. Drink plenty of plain water.</p>
<p>Include arthritis friendly foods in your diet for four weeks. You should not have any of the trigger foods at all. After four weeks, when the symptoms go away, you can easily identify foods that causes flare-ups by bringing back the food which you eliminate previously into your diet one at a time. Observe if the pain bursts out. If there is any flare-ups, remove the food from your diet. Let the joints heal before you introduce another food. Wait for two weeks before bringing the problematic food into your routine the second time. Don&#8217;t reintroduce major triggers such as meats, dairy products, or eggs into your diet. They can also cause hormone imbalances that may lead to joint pain.</p>
<p>The foods as listed above are not extensive. You need to determine which foods are friendly and hostile to arthritis by using the above method.</p>
<p>Arthritis foods can help to reduce and manage pain. Elimination of animal protein, nightshade family, and dairy products have helped some people with arthritis. You need to be aware that the results are not the same for everyone. If you follow a healthy diet, you can deal with arthritic pain more effectively.</p>

This is causing failure in many diet attempts, but it does not have to be this way. You can enjoy many snack foods without feeling bad about your binge. The trick is learning which foods are okay for snacking.</p>
<p>Yum! Chicken nuggets. Virtually every person craves these tasty morsels. Their fat content is horrifying, however. Instead of a fried chicken nugget, try baking them. Slice up some boneless chicken breast; dip it in a mixture of egg white and water and then coat in ground almonds or whole wheat bread crumbs. Bake at 400 for half an hour and you have a new twist on an old favorite.</p>
<p>There is a wide array of baked potato and tortilla chips on the market. Salsa is rich in antioxidants and fat-free. You can enjoy a bowl of baked tortilla chips and serve some delicious salsa alongside it. This snack is both good for you and will satisfy your chip craving.</p>
<p>If you prefer guacamole with your baked tortilla chips, go for it. Avocados are rich in fats that raise good cholesterol levels. If you do not like the taste of avocado try using mashed peas instead.</p>
<p>Baby carrots served with a low-fat or no-fat dressing are an easy to make and delicious treat for any hour of the day.</p>
<p>Cook a couple of potatoes in the microwave and then scoop out the middle flesh. Slice the remaining skin into large sections and pan fry in a skillet sprayed with non-stick spray. Serve these potato skins along with some fat-free sour cream.</p>
<p>Popcorn is a neat treat that can be very healthy.  Air pop it and eat it without butter. If the taste of unbuttered popcorn is too much, use some of the fat free butter sprays (Olivio uses a blend of olive oils that is scrumptious and available in many countries) to add a little flavor.</p>
<p>Jell-O, a childhood favorite, is fat-free and satisfying. The sugar-free versions cut calories completely. Add a dollop of fat-free whipped cream and you have a perfect dessert.</p>
<p>Deviled Eggs, if eaten in moderation, can be made with fat-free mayonnaise. Add some horseradish for extra zip.</p>
<p>Pita Bread, especially if the pita bread is whole wheat, can be baked crispy and served in place of tortilla chips. Serve wedges of fresh tortilla bread with fresh vegetables and yogurt-based dips.</p>
<p>You can also make a version of croutons using whole wheat bread, olive oil and garlic along with other desired seasonings. Bake these in an oven set at 300 for a couple hours. The resulting product is a crouton that is good for you and extremely satisfying.</p>
<p>Regardless of your desires, there are alternatives to high-fat, bad for you snacks. <p>The ever increasing range of requirements for water quality has caused the water treatment industry to upgrade existing techniques, combine different methods and explore the new technologies that will make the water cleaner.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s really no doubt that great improvements have been made in recent years, but myths and misconceptions still exist. Moreover, scientists have found that there are no two water treatment problems exactly the same.</p>
<p>Slight differences will always exist with more than one technically-acceptable and scientifically-sound solution to any water treatment problem. As a first conclusion, there are no absolutes when it comes to water treatment issues.</p>
<p>Pure water is one of the most aggressive solvents known. It is actually called the &#8220;universal solvent.&#8221; Water, to a certain degree, will dissolve virtually everything to which it is exposed. Pure water is highly energetic and, like everything else in nature, seems to achieve energy equilibrium with its surroundings.</p>
<p>It will attempt to dissolve any quantity of material available until the solution reaches a certain state called saturation, the point at which there are practically no more solids that can be dissolved.</p>
<p>Among the contaminants found in water we can include atmospheric gases, minerals, organic materials (some that occur naturally, others that are man-made) and any other materials used to transport or store water.</p>
<p>A major issue concerning water purity is bacterial contamination and control of bacterial growth. Water is essential for all life, we all know that. It is a necessary medium for bacterial growth because it carries the nutrients without which life wouldn&#8217;t be possible in any form. The water&#8217;s thermal stability provides also a controlled environment.</p>
<p>There are now four visible trends which are occurring in the world and which may indicate increased applications for water purification in the 21st century.</p>
<p>The first one is the deterioration of the water supplies from increased chemical abuse. The second one is the development of increasingly sensitive instruments capable of detecting water contaminants in the parts per billion and even parts per trillion range.</p>
<p>The third trend is the growing sophistication of the general public&#8217;s knowledge of water quality and the regulating authorities&#8217; response in mandating high standards.</p>
<p>Finally, the fourth and final trend refers to the development of new or refined high-technology products and biotechnology products which require ultra pure water as part of their manufacture. Water treatment techniques will require even greater sophistication in years ahead, if we want to drink pure water in the future also.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A recent AP newswire story reported the consumer group, Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), has found that the typical Chinese restaurant menu is full of bad nutritional properties.</p>
<p>For example, a plate of General Tsao&#8217;s chicken is loaded with about 40 percent more sodium, and more than half the calories, of an average adult&#8217;s daily needs. The battered, fried chicken dish with vegetables tallies out to 1,300 calories, 3,200 milligrams of sodium and 11 grams of saturated fat. That&#8217;s before the rice, which is 200 calories a cup. And, if you order the egg rolls, you add on 200 calories and 400 milligrams of sodium.</p>
<p>- Across the board, American restaurants need to cut back on calories and salt, and, in the meantime, people should think of each meal as not one, but two, and bring home half for tomorrow, said Center for Science in the Public Interest&#8217;s nutrition director, Bonnie Liebman.</p>
<p>According to government guidelines, the average adult only needs approximately 2,000 calories a day and 2,300 milligrams of salt, which equals one teaspoon.</p>
<p>The National Restaurant Association reported that restaurants in Texas and throughout the country were already making efforts to offer customers healthier choices. In particular, Chinese restaurants typically offer plenty of options for customers looking to steer clear of fried foods and heavy sauces.</p>
<p>But the CSPI&#8217;s study reports that, in some ways, Italian and Mexican restaurants can be worse for your health, because their food is higher in saturated fat, which can increase the risk of heart disease.</p>
<p>And while Chinese restaurant food can be bad for your waistline and blood pressure &#8211; sodium contributes to hypertension &#8211; it does offer vegetable-rich dishes and the kind of fat that&#8217;s not bad for the heart. But Chinese cooked veggies aren&#8217;t off the hook. A plate of stir-fried greens has 900 calories and 2,200 milligrams of sodium. And eggplant in garlic sauce has 1,000 calories and 2,000 milligrams of sodium.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, if you think you&#8217;re saving calories by just eating appetizers, think again. A plate of six steamed pork dumplings has 500 calories, and there&#8217;s only a difference of ten calories per dumpling between steamed and pan-fried.</p>
<p>The CSPI says there is no safe harbor from sodium on the Chinese restaurant menu, but it offers several tips for making a meal healthier:</p>
<p>- Ask for dishes featuring vegetables, instead of meat or noodles. Ask for extra broccoli, snow peas or other veggies.<br />
- Steer clear of deep-fried meat, seafood or tofu. Order it stir-fried or braised.<br />
- Hold the sauce, and eat with a fork or chopsticks to leave more sauce behind.<br />
- Avoid salt, so stay away from the duck sauce, hot mustard, hoisin sauce and soy sauce.<br />
- Share your meal or ask for a doggie bag.<br />
- Order brown rice rather than white rice.</p>
<p>Almost everyone likes Chinese food. But, like everything else in life, moderation is important. If you&#8217;re a healthy, young individual and you love Chinese food, eating a lot of it may not seem like it will affect your health now, but it certainly could in the long run. And as you&#8217;ll discover, what affects your health also will eventually affect your bank account.</p>

Today, more than ever, people are finding it necessary to try to maneuver around busy schedules, while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  The busier you are, the more difficult this is, but it is not an impossible fete.  Because you are on the go, it is extremely important to give proper attention to eating as healthy as possible.  Below are ten tips that will help get you pointed in the right direction.</p>
<p>Eat a variety of nutrient-rich foods.  You need over 40 different nutrients for good health, and no single food will supply them all.  </p>
<p>Eat plenty of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.  There is a wide variety out there from which to choose, so you should have no problem finding some you like.</p>
<p>Maintain a healthy weight.  Your appropriate weight will depend on many different factors such as body type, size, your height, gender, and heredity.  This is very important for maintaining good health, and is easy to ignore when you are constantly on the go.</p>
<p>Eat food in moderate portions.  If you keep portion sizes to this level, you will be able to maintain a good weight.  You will also get used to eating those portions.</p>
<p>Eat meals on a regular basis.  When you are on the go, it is easy to skip meals, or substitute eating healthy foods for fast food.  </p>
<p>Reduce certain foods instead of eliminating them altogether.  Elimination is why many diets do not work.  Here, people often cut out certain foods altogether in order to lose weight.  Once they have lost the desired amount of weight, they assume their previous eating habits, which only results in subsequent weight gain.  By eliminating certain foods, you also runt he risk of not getting important nutrients.</p>
<p>Balance your food choices over time.  Not ever food must be perfect, but you want to create a balance that will help you get the food groups you need, while helping to cut back on unwanted fats or sugar.  This does not mean you should eliminate them altogether.</p>
<p>Know your diet pitfalls.  Before you can identify what is wrong with your eating habits, you must first identify them.  To do this, write down everything you eat over a three-day period.  Then, compare what you ate with what you should be eating.  This will help you figure out where you are going wrong.</p>
<p>Make changes gradually.  Revamping your diet habits is a process that is accomplished over time, not overnight.</p>
<p>Keep in mind that foods are not necessarily good or bad. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Unfortunately, finding mold growing in our refrigerator is something that everyone has to deal with at some point or another, whether you are single, married, or especially if you have children.  People who tend to lead fully scheduled lives from day to day typically do not have time to keep a check on the items in their refrigerator to make sure mold does not start to grow, but time should be made at the very least twice a year to clean out the refrigerator of old inventory.  Those with more time to clean out their refrigerators should do so more often.</p>
<p>Take an inventory of what is in your refrigerator and what the date is.  Anything that is sorely outdated, showing signs of mold contamination, or smelling foul should be thrown away.  These items will not take long to contaminate the food that is next to it, such as potatoes from the garden that are put in the same container.  One bad potato will spoil the rest fairly quickly if it is not removed and the potatoes touching it washed immediately afterward.</p>
<p>Fruits and vegetables that are brought home from the grocery store should be removed from their plastic sacks that we use at the store to collect them with.  These bags will trap moisture inside and cause the fruit to begin to break down, inviting mold to start growing.</p>
<p>Clean out your refrigerator as often as possible, especially if you tend to have a lot of spills in it.  If you thaw meat out in the refrigerator, you need to make sure it is thawed out in a pan of some kind to prevent the blood or other juices from getting all over your shelves.  Raw poultry is notorious for causing salmonella poisoning, so it is important that you get anything the poultry touched while it was thawing in the refrigerator cleaned after you take it out.</p>
<p>Wash the insides of the refrigerator with antibacterial cleaners and bleach, if you must.  Bleach should not be mixed with other household chemicals, however, especially those that contain ammonia.  This can cause hazardous fumes to build up in your kitchen and can do you serious damage if you breathe enough in.</p>
<p>While you have everything out of the fridge, take the time to go through the items in it again and toss out anything questionable.  Check any home-canned goods that you might have and make sure the seals are not broken on them.
